Urban transport project approved

FAISALABAD: The Chief Secretary Punjab, Javed Mehmud, has approved the launching of the project “Pre-feasibility Study for Urban Transport and Industrial Waste Management” in Faisalabad. This approval was given by him during his visit to Chiniot, where Senior Municipal Development Specialist of Cities Development Initiative for Asia(CDIA), Nadir Ihsan, along with his team, met him and gave him a briefing about the project.
He informed him that this project was funded by the CDIA and supported by the Asian Development Bank, the Germen Government and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), which was an Asian-wide urban support partnership that aims to assist Asian cities to bridge the divide that exists between strategic cities development planning, urban services and infrastructure preparations.
He further revealed that the objective of their project was to prepare co-ordinated feasibility studies for infrastructure investment projects in the areas of urban transport and industrial waste management for the city of Faisalabad.
The Chief Secretary Punjab thanked the CDIA team for selecting the important city of Faisalabad for this project and said that this study would prove helpful for the urban development and control of environmental pollution, poverty elevation and sustainable infrastructure of the relevant sector.
He hoped that the scope of this project would be expanded to other big and important cities of the Punjab. Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain and the administrative Secretaries of different provincial department were also present in the meeting.
