CDIA Training event at World Urban Forum 6
September 26, 2012
The Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) in collaboration with UN-HABITAT and CDIA national partner organizations from China, India, Indonesia and the Philippines organized a training session within the framework of the recently concluded 6th World Urban Forum in Naples, Italy.
Many local governments are often not sufficiently equipped to undertake the task of translating their plans and strategies into a prioritized shortlist of infrastructure projects ready to be presented to possible financing institutions from the private sector, the national government and/or international financing institutions.
Through a role-play, the 48 participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with a toolkit developed to assist cities and municipalities to prioritize their infrastructure investment projects and to consider the options available to finance the prioritized investments.
The training event was very much appreciated by participants with participants giving it an average score of 4.3 (out of 5) and 75% of the participants committing to inform their colleagues and other stakeholders about the approach. Concrete requests were received from Port Elizabeth in South Africa and Sao Paulo for support in application of the CDIA Prioritization tool.
