Applications for the 2014 Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation are now being accepted. The Award, jointly sponsored by the United Cities and Local Governments, the World Association of the Major Metropolises, and the City of Guangzhou, aims to recognize innovation in improving the social, economic, and environmental sustainability in cities and regions. The registration deadline is May 2014.
The Guangzhou Award contributes to enhancing the performance of cities and regions in two ways:
By promoting and recognizing innovation as a key contributing factor in meeting the social, economic, and environmental challenges facing a rapidly changing world; and by providing a platform for the sharing and exchange of lessons learned from successful innovation.
The Award will be given to five cities for each award cycle. Each of the winning cities will receive a US$ 20,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a commemorative certificate. The winners will be invited to attend special events including the Guangzhou International Conference on Urban Innovation, an exhibition, and the Award Ceremony.
