Interim Phase of the Wastewater Management study in Colombo
September 29, 2014
On 4 September, CDIA gave the midterm presentation on sustainable wastewater management in Colombo at the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The CDIA consultants introduced the current findings of the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) to the Steering committee (SC) composed of the Additional Secretary, counterparts of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), ADB project manager, and other high-level city officials.
The study results provided an overall framework on sustainable wastewater management for Greater Colombo and identified projects that will be implemented under an ADB loan of around $200 million. Further investigated through the ADB Multi-tranche Financing Facility (MFF) II and III, this project will lead to the further rehabilitation requirements of the wastewater system, the establishment of treatment facilities, and the extension of the system to presently non-served urban areas in the city. The SC endorsed CDIA’s work at this stage and provided guidance on the next steps.
