WWF Report Focuses On Financing Sustainable Infrastructure in Cities
March 26, 2015
A recently released World Wildlife Fund (WWF) report on financial tools for sustainable urban infrastructure finance and investments, to which CDIA contributed, states that it is the lack of investable projects that seems to be the main issue preventing sustainable infrastructure investment at scale rather than the lack of finance. It also mentions that project prioritization and preparation are critical to raising finance for sustainable infrastructure. Cities should develop coherent investment propositions to attract finance for sustainable infrastructure, based on a ‘product & marketing approach’ to infrastructure financing.
The report, based on detailed international research, gives an overview of financial instruments commonly used to finance infrastructure development. It analyses their potential to support the transition towards sustainable infrastructure, with a primary focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy at city-level.
