August 27, 2015
On 20 August, the 4th Annual Urban Renewal Conference by Trueventus, and supported by CDIA, concluded at the Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore. The event was a resounding success convening close to 120 delegates from 10 countries — representing entities that included urban renewal and redevelopment authorities, urban planners, developers, project planners from government, agencies, local councils, urban development agencies, city and town planners — who exchanged their valuable knowledge, learned from the discussions and presentations, and networked in a highly beneficial setting. Countries represented were Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, USA, and Namibia.
Speaking at the conference, Stuart King, CDIA Senior Infrastructure Finance Specialist, stressed the circumstances in which Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) transactions ought to be pursued and discussed some of the key building blocks that ought to be put in place to increase the chances of success in adopting such a strategy. He reviewed the role of PPP and its potential in the urban infrastructure financing framework and highlighted several instances where CDIA has been involved with PPP facilitation.
The conference featured an exclusive presentation from the New York City Department of City Planning on New York as a sustainable city and affordable housing supply in urban renewal areas, a comprehensive plan for affordable housing in East New York, Brooklyn. The conference ended with a prelude of the 2016 conference and also the future development of urban renewal projects.
