UIN’s Best Practice Policy Framework and Action Plans for Infrastructure Development in Asia-Pacific Region is Ready
July 29, 2016
CDIA, through its Program Coordinator Mrs. Claudia Hermes participated in the Urban Infrastructure Network (UIN) forum held 15 June 2016 in Singapore to finalize UIN’s “Report on Urban Infrastructure Development in the APEC Region: Best Practice Policy Framework and Proposed Action Plans.” UIN was established in 2014 out of the recommendation of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council to assist governments and key stakeholders in managing urban development challenges.
UIN’s report is expected to provide tools for APEC policymakers to drive responsive, inclusive and sustainable urban infrastructure development in the Asia-Pacific region.
In particular, the report offers principles and courses of action for: promoting integrated urban planning; effective project and program development systems; and improving urban financing systems. The recommended action plans stemmed from earlier institutional reviews of 21 APEC and 3 non-APEC economies. They hoped to provide reference for policymakers to enhance the quality and delivery of infrastructure services to their urban citizens.
Among others, the UIN report underscores the need to strengthen capacities to plan, develop, implement and finance urban infrastructure in many cities. It further mentions CDIA as an instructive model.
A meeting of the UIN Advisory Council is set in November 2016 to consider next steps for taking the UIN Framework and Action Plans forward.
