A Habitat III PrepCom3 Side Event Calls for Creation of Inclusive Cities

At the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for Habitat III (PrepCom3) in Surabaya, Indonesia, the GIZ Project – Inclusive Metropolitan Environments for the Urban Poor together with Oxfam, CDIA, the Cities Alliance, BMZ and UCLG-ASPAC successfully conducted the side event titled, “Inclusive Cities: Leave no person and no space behind” on 26 July 2016.
Panelists from the Indian National Institute of Urban Affairs, Slum Dwellers International, Oxfam and BMZ discussed issues and solutions related to enhancing spatial inclusion and managing peri-urban expansion, reducing inequalities within cities, recognizing the existence and needs of the informal sector, empowering women, and enhancing partnerships among different stakeholders in cities. All these were done in an effort to encourage the creation of inclusive cities, thereby ensuring that they provide equal opportunities and better living conditions for all.
Around 80 representatives of civil society organizations, local and national governments, as well as international organizations attended the one-hour session.
