CDIA and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Revitalize Partnership
August 8, 2016
CDIA and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability share a strong mutual interest in promoting sustainable urban development and strengthening climate resilience in the Asian region. Acknowledging the benefits of substantive cooperation, and building on existing collaboration, the partners renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) while at the World Cities Summit in Singapore from 10-14 July 2016. CDIA-ADB Program Manager Joris van Etten and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Deputy Secretary General Monika Zimmermann signed on behalf of their respective organizations.
The MOU strengthened areas of cooperation, particularly on capacity development and institutionalization of processes to strengthen city infrastructure investment prioritization and programming, and identify alternative financing mechanisms.
ICLEI –Local Governments for Sustainability and CDIA have previously collaborated on peer-learning events for cities, training courses, conferences, and pre-feasibility studies.
Enhancing the cooperation is also in line with CDIA’s 2016 thematic focus on partnerships, as well as the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) # 17, which is to “Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.”
