New Video Documentation Features CDIA Work with Pimpri City, India
November 15, 2016
CDIA is proud to introduce a new video that documents the story of the 24×7 water supply project in Pimpri, India as implemented by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Pimpri is the fastest growing city in the state of Maharashtra. It hosts one of the biggest industrial zones in Asia comprising auto-ancilliary, and IT service industries. Its population is growing by 70 percent a decade, which stresses the importance of adequate water supply.
PCMC is taking proactive steps in ensuring that water, a resource so scarce and yet immensely valuable to the life and culture of the Indian population, is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The 24×7 water supply project originated from the assistance of CDIA in 2012 for a pre-feasibility study (PFS). The report has been elemental in opening doors for the Central Government to allocate resources for its implementation. Four years after, CDIA considers it among its Centers of Learning, and among those whose benefits have been felt directly by the residents in Yamuna Nagar, where the project has been piloted.
“We are proud to see the fruition of many of the PFS recommendations,” said Mrs. Claudia Hermes, CDIA-GIZ Program Coordinator. “The local government committed to provide the current, as well as the future needs of the people. We are happy to be witnesses,” she added.
