On August 1, 2017, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center of the Philippines and the League of Cities of the Philippines conducted a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for Local PPP Projects. The workshop was supported by CDIA.

Participants included representatives from various private and public agencies in SOCCSKSARGEN Region in Southern Philippines, for instance the National Economic and Development Authority; the Department of Trade and Industry; the Mindanao Development Authority; the City Governments of General Santos, Cotabato, Tacurong, Koronadal and Kidapawan; as well as SOWI Renewables Technologies Inc.

After an introduction on PPP, the participants expressed and shared their experiences as well as expectations about PPP. When it came to the question, ‘What is needed for a successful PPP?’ the local government units (LGUs) on the one hand, mentioned capacity building for their technical staff; as well as assistance in fast-tracking the implementation of PPP projects and allocating project funds. They further stated that support from development partners (e.g. CDIA) and National Government Agencies (PPP Center and other government agencies depending on the type of project) is highly appreciated. The private sector on the other hand, mentioned that complete and reliable information, early release of draft contracts with clear terms, as well as support on regulatory aspects would ease the realization of PPP projects.

Besides raising awareness of PPP projects among the LGUs, the stakeholder consultation workshop was part of the PPP Center’s activities to meet specific project implementation needs at the meso and micro level. Click here for additional info.
