CDIA and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) of Cambodia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 27 March 2018 to further strengthen their partnership in supporting Cambodian cities to implement and manage wastewater infrastructure projects.

CDIA and MPWT’s strengthened partnership through the MOU is a result of the pilot focused capacity development initiative, where a two-part wastewater management training was conducted in July and October 2017 along with the CDIA Tonle Sap Integrated Urban Environmental Management Project. Focused capacity development is among the five key innovations in the CDIA Strategy 2018-2022.

Continuing this initiative, the MOU between CDIA and MPWT includes two main joint activities:  1) redelivering the wastewater management course through previously trained MPWT staff in additional municipalities and 2) developing a wastewater management guide to further enhance the sector in Cambodian cities.

“We hope that CDIA could help us in strengthening our capacities and assist us in establishing the guidelines or standards so we can improve wastewater management in Cambodia,” said H.E. Heng Rathpiseth.

The signing was graced by His Excellency Heng Rathpiseth, Director General, His Excellency Vong Pisith, Deputy Director General, Mr. Chao Phibal, Director of the Sewerage Management and Construction Department (SMCD), Mr. Lim Soktay, Deputy Director of SMCD, Mr. Heng Phoury, Deputy Director, Mr. Chheng Sovanndy, Chief of Office, Mr. Chheav Sokkhim, Chief of Office, and Mr. Lun Heng, SMCD Officer who is also a former CDIA Young Asian Professional. Capacity Development Advisor Thomas Hagedorn and Program Management Officer Mia Simpao attended on behalf of CDIA to sign the MOU and further discuss joint activities with the ministry.
