ADB to Join the Twelfth World Urban Forum
August 30, 2024

The ADB delegation, comprising several trust funds including CDIA and the Urban Resilience Trust Fund will participate in the Twelfth World Urban Forum (WUF12) from 4 to 8 November 2024 in Cairo, Egypt.
It will organize three networking and two training events with the following partners: United Cities and Local Governments – Asia Pacific, Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance, UN Capital Development Fund, CDP, Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation, GIZ-Urban Act, and UN-Habitat.
Convened by UN-Habitat every two years, the World Urban Forum is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization, bringing together representatives of national, regional, and local governments; academics; entrepreneurs; urban planners; community leaders; and other stakeholders.
Themed, “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities”, WUF12 will focus on the transformative role of local action to accelerate progress toward sustainable urbanization.
As cities struggle to attract investment for climate action, ADB-CDIA and its partners will aim to promote discussions around paradigm-shifting solutions. Through the five dynamic sessions, they will seek to empower cities to develop bankable projects while boosting their fiscal management capabilities, connect directly with investors, and leverage the support of project preparation facilities and other partners in developing the skills and environment needed for successful resource mobilization.
The sessions will highlight the critical importance of robust project preparation, effective impact measurement, and strategic collaborations to secure funding and implement climate-resilient projects.
The five sessions are aligned with WUF12’s dialogues, particularly, Dialogue 2: Cities and the Climate Crisis; Dialogue 3: Stronger Together; and Dialogue 4: Financing Localization and Localizing Finance.
