Financing Urban Infrastructure Training Course Conducted in Indonesia

Like many other cities in Asia, Indonesian cities have difficulty accessing finance for infrastructure. Relying heavily on current mechanisms – typically public sector grant funding – to meet capital and operational expenditure financing needs limits what many cities can potentially achieve.

To help Indonesian cities bridge this infrastructure financing gap, CDIA, in partnership with PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMi), delivered the latest in a series of training courses focused on “Linking Cities’ Infrastructure Investment Projects to Finance” from 26-28 April 2017 in Balikpapan City, Indonesia.


CDIA Welcomes Its New Young Asian Professional

CDIA welcomed to the team, Mr. Lun Heng as a Young Asian Professional (YAP) starting 7 May 2017. He works at the Sewerage Management & Construction Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) in Cambodia, wherein his tasks constitute the review of national policy frameworks on wastewater management, among others.

Thirty-three Mayors, Commissioners, and senior government officials from 14 cities in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan and the Philippines signed the Manifesto of Support towards a Better Future for Asia in the recently held “Effective Urban Infrastructure Programming and Good Practices Workshop” on 17-21 April 2017 in Singapore.

CDIA Training Workshop in Singapore Promotes Better Understanding of How to Actualize Infrastructure Investments in Asia

There is no other region in the world where fast-track urban growth happens as in Asia, and confronts urban development with more challenges than anywhere else. In most Asian cities however, the capacities to identify, prepare and realize bankable infrastructure investments are either lacking or nascent.

To support Asian cities bridge this gap, CDIA collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore and National University of Singapore to deliver a five-day training course as part of the 10-year anniversary of CDIA dubbed, “Effective Urban Infrastructure Programming and Good Practices Workshop.”


New CDIA Project Coordinator for China Now Onboard

Ms. Chenzi Yiyang joined CDIA on 14 April 2017 as the Project Coordinator for China. As such, she will coordinate and manage CDIA’s activities in China in close cooperation with CDIA’s core management team (CMT) and its Senior Project Development Officer in China.

Project Preparation Study for the Tbilisi Metro Upgrade Underway

TBILISI, GEORGIA – CDIA’s Project Preparation Study (PPS) for the Tbilisi Metro System Upgrade kicked-off in late February 2017; and is targeting the modernization of the facility and the improvement of its operation to meet present day technical, operational, safety and accessibility standards. The project is envisaged to facilitate a shift to sustainable urban mobility in the Tbilisi urban area.

UCLG-ASPAC Undertakes Comparative Study on Institutional Frameworks of Local Governments in Asia

At its regional meeting held 4 April 2017 in Catbalogan City, Philippines, UCLG-ASPAC presented the preliminary results of the study on institutional frameworks of local governments in 30 Asian countries, of which CDIA supported the national assessments of China and Mongolia.

Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Offers Fast, Affordable and Convenient Ride for Commuters

This was how University student Ayesha Iftikhar described her experience riding the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus in Pakistan, a bus rapid transit (BRT) system that CDIA helped to plan in 2012.
