Key City Development Issues

Can Tho’s City Development Strategy 2006 aims to develop the town into a hub of high-technology industry, commerce, service, tourism, science and technology, health, and education. Specifically, the government was keen on addressing the industrial wastewater pollution of  Hu River, the bigger branch of Mekong River, which serves as an important source of drinking water for Can Tho’s residents.

Details of Cooperation

CDIA supported the preparation of a feasibility study in Can Tho’s wastewater drainage and treatment sector. In particular, it sought to address wastewater disposal in Tra Noc Industrial Zone

Expected Development Outcomes

The project, which focused on the treatment of industrial wastewater was aimed at improving the water quality in Can Tho’s Hu River, which is an important source of drinking water for its residents.

Key City informationCan Tho is the biggest city in the Mekong Delta. The city is located on the south bank of the Hu River, the bigger branch of
the Mekong River. It is 169 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Administratively, Can Tho city is an independent municipality with the same level as with the provinces of Vietnam.
