Pimpri-Chinchwad is considered to have a strong economic base following its shift from agriculture to industry and knowledge-based economy in recent decades. With the rapid growth of urbanization, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is taking action to meet the growing need for urban services and infrastructure in order to provide high-quality standards of living and economic development for its citizens.

Details of Cooperation

CDIA-supported activities include a) the development of an integrated urban infrastructure investment program including water supply, sanitation, sewerage, drainage, and solid waste management; b) pre-feasibility on water supply; c) assistance to the city in identifying potential financial resources, particularly from the private sector for the proposed investments; and d) assistance to the city in strengthening its capacity for project implementation.

Expected Development Outcomes

The 24×7 water supply project, which was piloted (as of 2016) in Yamuna Nagar area has increased the access and availability of clean water supply services for the residents, and who, in turn, saw improvements in their health as a result of decreasing trends of waterborne diseases. Upon full implementation, the project is expected to improve the public health of the city, including the urban poor, which comprise 12% of the population.
